Q: Import a video clip shared on iCloud?

Is this at all possible?

I have a few video's i have taken on christmas day of my boy that i have uploaded to an iCloud stream/album from Aperture which i did last night.

Today i went to edit them in iMovie on my iPad yes i could do it on my iMac but that would mean sitting in my office in my workshop but as its boxing day i would like to be around my family.

I could not find a way to import video clips from an iCloud album into iMovie there isnt an option to add the video to my camera roll.

Its seems a bit crazy you can share a movie you make in iMovie the other way to iCloud but not be able to import them in

Anyone found a way round this?

Cheers

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I have the same question/issue. I recorded the video on my 5s, and shared them to icloud. When on my ipad I can see and play the videos from the photos app, but the iMovie app doesn't locate them. It does locate pictures in this same stream.

It is now 23 May 2014, and nothing has improved.

In the OS X environment, everything works as expected:

    • OS X iPhoto shows photos and videos from iCloud shared streams under SHARED > iCloud > My Streams or Family and Friends’ Streams.

    • OS X iMovie can access iCloud shared stream videos as source material for movies via LIBRARIES > iPhoto Library > iCloud.

In the iOS environment, movies from iCloud shared streams are suppressed:

    • iOS iPhoto shows only photos from iCloud shared streams under Shared; no videos.

    • iOS iMovie shows photos from iCloud shared streams under Photos. It does not show any of the iCloud shared stream videos as source material for movies under Video.

Can anyone explain the logic of this? Clearly, Apple expects iOS devices to be used for movies, and even provides iMovie in that environment, so why suppress only videos from iCloud shared streams while supporting photos from there?

Is this "by design" or is it a bug?

Finally, does anyone have a workaround?

I Really wish there was a way this would work. It simply doesn't. I've had to take extra steps to load videos into third party apps (Dropbox, Copy, etc) then download them onto my iPad. I can't even save my shared videos to the camera roll on the iPad. It's like they're making extra work for me instead making life simple! I run a YouTube channel and instead of my contributors loading videos to a shared folder we have to go elsewhere and create extra steps to do what should be simple! I love that my iOS devices talk seemlessly to each other, but the lack of this basic function is infuriating!! IIt would be great if Apple would chime in here sometime!

(im a new mac user and this is my first post)..

i found a quick way to import video/photo from iCloud shared to imovie , i though i shared. in our camping trip, 7 of us are using iphone. i asked everyone to use iCloud Share so i can put a compile video.

    im using Yosemite ..

    - i open iPhoto to import pictures/videos.

    - in photo library i copied all imported pictures/videos

    - pasted in new folder.

    - now just like normal process, i imported all files to iMovie.

    hope this helps.

Here is a work around. I use airdrop to directly transfer the video clip from one IOS device to another. ICloud is not involved.
