photos rotate when iPad emails to a PC

Okay, I realize there are 1,000 pages of threads on this going back over the years. But now there is a new ios, so maybe it is time for an update. I am hoping some knowledgeable person can help a few million people by posting a clear, all-encompassing, updated status on where we stand. Suggested points to clarify: (1) Does this happen to portrait, or landscape, or both; (2) Will taking the photo holding the ipad in a particular orientation prevent the problem; (3) If I email the photo to myself first, and then forward to the PC recipient, will it arrive at the PC in the proper orientation; (4) Are there any new fixes or workarounds? Thank you. p.s. I am aware of solution "Heck, let the recipients rotate the photos. It's their problem. " Unfortunately, this is not always feasible or desirable. - Robert
