Software Update

My MacBook Pro continues to tell me it has a software update so I tell it to install and restart my computer. Each time it restarts, but nothing has been updated. I have retried numerous time and nothing will update for me. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I need to update almost everything. There are 13 items listed. Safari, Migration Assistant Update, iTunes, Apple Software Installer Update, Remote Desktop Client Update, iphoto, MacBook Pro EFI Firmware, Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 17, GarageBand, AirPort Utility, Security Update 2013-004, MacBook Pro SMC Firmware, and HP Printer Software.

The version currently on my computer is 10.6.8

Now that all of your updates are installed, you can upgrade to a higher OSX, you can upgrade to latest Mavericks, if you want that OSX. It is avai;able on the App store, (enter Mavericks) in the search wndow. You ran all the updates, that is why you are still 10.6.8

You can now upgrade to a higher OSX, the latest is Mavericks 10.9.x then you will need to run software update againg once the new OSX is installed, as there will be updates for the new OSX.

This will explain te difference between an update and an upgrade:
