Problem with Apple TV 3 - menu function not working (stuck on screensaver)

Hi guys, something is wrong with my ATV3. When I turn it on, and hit menu, nothing happens. All I get is the usual screensaver screen, and occasionally a message will pop up stating "AirPley....Wirelessly send what's on your iOS.... 1. Choose wifi network 2. Choose this Apple TV".

I have tried resetting by hitting menu and the down button on my remote, waiting for lights to flash...and then unplugging the ATV3 for 30 seconds before plugging it in again. I have also unplugged my router. I have also tried changing the battery on the remote. Nothing works.

I have turned my ituned on and off and on again.

Is my ATV3 broken? Or is there some other way to get the menu function going again?

I also just upgraded the operating system to Mavericks. I can't remember if I used the ATV3 following the upgrade...I think I may not hve. Could it be something with Mavericks?
