Q: numbers 3.0.01 will not launch...

i recently re-installed mavericks on my macbook pro, and now numbers 3.0.1 and pages will not start....

when i go to my account on the app store it tells me that i have installed each program, but will not let me download or re-install the apps again....

i have read elsewhere that using the option key over the download link should allow me to re-install the apps, but the app store does not let me.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Bruce,

How are you trying to launch Numbers 3? The app is in your Applications folder. You can launch from there, or drag the icon to your Dock. Right click > Options > Keep in Dock. Here is Numbers 2 on the left (3 column chart) and Numbers 3 on the right (4 column chart).

If you need to find Numbers 2 (Numbers '09) it lives in a folder called iWork '09 within the Applications folder.

You can run both versions of Numbers at the same time. Just be sure which version is active when you save a document. Best to work on a copy of a 'heritage' Numbers 2 document.

Another tip, you can Export 'backwards' from Numbers 3. File > Export > Numbers '09.

Don't delete Numbers '09. It will be handy if you need a feature that does not yet appear in Numbers 3.

I suppose the above also applies to Pages.

    Regards,

    Ian.

    hey ian!

thanks for the prompt reply,  but unfortunately the issue is not pretaining to being able to find the application or which version to run...

numbers 09 and pages 09 seem to work just fine and live in a seperate subfolder.... but files created in newer versions of numbers are not compatiable with the older versions so sadly the older version doesn't seem to be a viable option for me...

i've been trying to launch the app directly from the applications folder...  and the icon briefly appears on the dock bouncing about for about 2 seconds (as most apps do when launched)  then it disappears off the dock as if it had never been launched and does not show up in the "force quit" window so i guess it isn't actually launching or it has been corrupted and immediately closes...

apple's tech support folks have been quick to get back to me and hopefully they will be able to help me sort it...

if i have any luck i'll post here as well... in the meantime any other suggestions are greatly appreciated...

    Hi Bruce,

the icon briefly appears on the dock bouncing about for about 2 seconds (as most apps do when launched)  then it disappears off the dock

I hope Apple tech support can help. In the meantime, here is how to keep an icon (actually an Alias for Numbers 3) on the Dock. Drag it from your Applications folder to the Dock, then right click (or control click):

    Choose Keep in Dock.

files created in newer versions of numbers are not compatiable with the older versions so sadly the older version doesn't seem to be a viable option for me...

A file "accidentally" opened in Numbers 3 can be Exported "backwards" to Numbers '09

Therefore, do not delete Numbers '09!

Numbers 3.0.1 now has a warning when you "accidentally" open and edit a Numbers 2 (Numbers '09) document:

I find that both versions of Numbers work happily side-by-side on my Mac. I just need to be careful when saving.

if i have any luck i'll post here as well...

Please do! Good luck, and regards,

    Ian.
