Q: Unlocking and restoring gifted old IPhone.

I just unlocked an old 3G gifted to me by a family member. But now to get started the phone wants my relatives apple id password. I thought restoring all would "start things over. What now?

Restore the device as new via iTunes.
If referring to carrier lock, only the carrier to whom it is locked can unlock it.
There is no activation lock on the 3G or 3GS, so a restore as new will wipe all content on the device.
