speaker dock for iphone 5 but old ipod....

Hoping someone can help. My partner has just bought this for me sony-rdhgtk17ip-mini-hi-fi-system-with-lightning-connector, but the dock is for an iphone 5 and I only have the old ipod. The place where we bought it wont let us return as it has been opened and I have tried to find an adaptor for it but cant find one. Do I have to buy a new ipod with the new 8pin connector just to use this?
