I am asking this question for my mother! Previously no problems with downloading photos from the camera. Now computer and iphot do not recognise that the camera is attached, nor does it download the photos. I have reconnected all cables, and tried different usb ports, as well as different users.
Help please!
I am not aware of ANY "software that came with the camera" that is ever required for iPhoto compatibility for still photos. I've owned three cameras (all different brands) and I've never loaded any software provided by the camera manufacturer. There are some exceptions for movie compatibility.
True, however the more advanced cameras with RAW and other features come with software that is necessary. I am a photographer and have quite a few cameras as well, however my one Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T30 did require the software to be compatible with iPhoto, due to the technologies in it.
I have a Sony DSC-W7. I've been importing my photos using AppleScripts and directly to iPhoto, depending on the photos and mood. Once in a while, I lose my head and forget to put the camera in the right mode. Needless to say, it's sometimes the little things that are easy to overlook like making sure the cable is correctly plugged in, making sure the battery is in AND has enough power to transfer, making sure the Memory Stick is in the camera and not in the USB flash reader slot. You get the picture? Well, yes, you do get the picture(s) when you check all the stuff you thought you'd done correctly. (Especially when it's much too late and you are exhausted but still must get the new photos in your computer.)
I had the same problem with a Sony DCSP100 camera, worked fine and then stopped being recognised after updating the system. The latest OS (10.4.7) update seems to have to broken the usb kernal as highlighted in posts in other forums on this site. I got around it by using the card reader in our hp all-in-one printer.
Other fixes are to try PTP mode on the camera or to install the previous usb kernal over the 10.4.7 version.
Bruce--I think you hit the nail on the head. Every since I've updated to 10.4.7, several applications seem to not be working right. I've had trouble with iWeb (which before I had no problems) And today, I'm having the same problem as the original poster of this problem--so, my question is, how do we DO what you suggested---install the previous USB kernal over the current version??
Thanks,
