Feb 10, 2015 4:02 PM in response to KiltedTimby Pats Dad,They sell the product! Failing g to support it is just a way of forcing sales. There are myriad reasons why folk may not have access to original information or paperwork. Presumably deceased estates, traumatic injuries, locked up in foreign lands etc were beyond the 'great innovators' imagination?
Recovered from theft with the thief having activated the lock?
How is any of this Apple's problem? Not once they have the money I suppose.
How can folk be so clever with technology yet so stupid about life?

Feb 10, 2015 5:01 PM in response to Pats Dadby KiltedTim,Yes. Apple sells it. Their responsibility is to the original purchaser of the device. There are ways to deal with all of the examples you gave. Apple will NOT help if you can not prove ownership of the phone or the account used to lock it.

Mar 18, 2015 11:05 PM in response to gigishaby Piemania,If you device is is just Apple ID locked, just go into an apple genuis store with ID or alternatively call Apple support and they should be able to help you out and get your device going again (Just remember to take proof of purchase eg Paypal if you purchased it from Ebay)
APple support got my iPad going again over the phone and they didn't even ask me proof of purchase even though I kept my Reciepts.

Jul 3, 2015 3:45 PM in response to Nabeelnavby brojdoster,There are two ways and ONLY two ways to get the ICloud lock removed. If you have proof of ownership (original receipt) Apple will gladly remove the lock. I did this personally and the genius' were pleasant and we're glad to assist in removing the iCloud lock. The only other way to remove it is to contact the orginal owner of the device and request them remove the device from their Apple account. If you don't have original proof of purchase or can contact the original owner, you have a paper weight!! That's life! People, check used devices BEFORE your purchase them. Do not fall for gimmick lock removal websites. They are ALL FAKE!!

Nov 27, 2015 8:43 AM in response to brojdosterby best a/v tech ever,Hello all. I read the entire thread and it only deals with lost/stolen instances.
What if I do know the owner? What are the actual steps she needs to take to make sure her account is no longer linked to the phone? Amazingly, this was never addressed in this entire thread! :-)
thank you,
