Is there a way to turn off the menu bar on external displays?

We have been using the external displays for several years to show presentations. With the Mavericks upgrade we now have the menu bars showing up on every projected display. While not a big issue, it does look unprofessional and strange. Can we turn them off or hide them at all?

Yes. Go to the Mission Control system preferences and uncheck the option for "Displays have separate spaces." This will treat all displays as representing the same space, with a single menu bar on the main display to manage the programs in that space.
