Pages seems to get a lot of bad reviews. Are they accurate?

I was just about to but Pages, but am wondering why it gets such bad reviews from users.

Am I better off not spending the $20.00 and just staying with Word (even though I'm on a quest to only use Apple apps)?

Most of them are accurate.

The problem of the new Pages version is that the user interface has changed respecting to the old version, so you need to learn the new user interface. But apart from that, the new Pages version has got less features and more bugs than the old version (in my case, it is terrible to use it because of some annoying bugs).

Because of that, I recommend you to carry on using Word or try LibreOffice, or even iWork '09, which is the old iWork version that includes Pages. Apple will update the new Pages version to add more features and fix bugs

Jean,.

There is no new iWorks. iWorks is no longer in the Apple or Mac vocabulary.

The Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are now independent applications and are ot part of a bundle. Sad say, but Pages 5 is several steps back.

I have not seen an Apple mistake like this for a long time. AppleWorks was great and look what they did to that.

Apple is convinced that you and I do not need a word processor!

This is from a generation of people who cannot write in script or keyboard without peeking.

This is the dumbing down of our culture. Books? Real books?

They haven't a clue.

Unfortunately they deserve the bad reviews.

However the iWork for Maverick Apps are free, if you had them previously, and you can make your own assessment.

Just make sure you protect existing documents, with back ups as the new file format is so different they will be altered/damaged when opened in the new Apps.

There a few new features and touches to Pages 5 but they are completely overwhelmed by the removal of over 90 features, bugs and bad UI:

Even given the new features, most don't really work, or just work badly. The T.O.C screws up, the Right to Left text is faulty and the best of the new features, Object Styles, is not as solid as it should be. Drawing is better but still not up to the standard of a full on drawing program.
