Image Capture not detecting Scanner over Network

I have an Epson Workforce 610 which is installed as a network printer (wired ethernet) in my Home Office. OSX Mavericks will find and load the ppropriate drivers for the printer, and printing is fine. However Image Capture does not show the scanner portion in its window. Devices read as (0).

If I connect via USB cable the Scanner shows up with no problem. Disconnect USB no scanner.

Has anyone got a workforce 610 successfully scanning over ethernet?

Thank,

I also have a networked Workforce 610 that would not show up in Image Capture a few weeks ago. I think these were the steps I took to fix it:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Click Printers and Scanners
  3. Select Workforce 610
  4. Click minus sign ( - ) under the list to delete Workforce 610
  5. Click plus sign ( + ) to add it back.

Basically, a reset of the printer software in OS X. After that I could scan over the network.

John,

Not sure quite what your question is asking. Printer/Scanner System preferences allows me to find and add the printer, but it does not appear as a scanner.

As to preview, I have no problems with it as a viewing program, but until the system recognizes the scanner is there, there's nothing to preview.

As I say in my post, if I connect the printer via USB there is no problem. It shows up as a printer and a scanner in the Printer/Scanner Preferences. The problem occurs when trying to use it via the network connection, at which point the printer shows up only as a printer. and can't be "added" as a scanner.

On the network computer, does System Preferences save it as a Shared Printer?

The reason I ask is that I can't.

I can select and save as follows:

But when I re-open System Preferences, the system has de-selected it:

I should add a clarification and tip.

I want to make sure people in this thread are not confusing "networked" scanners with "shared" scanners. The Epson Workforce 610 has full network support so you should be able to connect to it directly. This is just to point out that "Share this scanner on the network" does not need to be selected to solve this thread, and in fact that option is completely irrelevant to the problem in this thread. The "Share this scanner..." feature is for scanners that cannot be connected directly over the network; the feature lets a Mac do the work of sharing the device over the network. But the Workforce 610 does not need this option because it can share itself. (Image Capture makes this a little confusing because it lists networked scanners under the "Shared" heading.)

The tip is that yesterday I could not reach my Workforce 610 over the network even though I had just posted that I could. 🙂 This is something that happens occasionally to me that is not related to the Workforce or Mavericks specifically, but once in a while I find that I need to restart my router and then it all works again. So I wanted to make sure that, as part of the troubleshooting, the router has been restarted at some point.

Because once I restarted my router, the Workforce 610 resumed appearing as a scanner across the network in Image Capture, using Mavericks.

For a second there I hoped you had the solution since indeed restarting the router was the one thing I had not done.....

Alas when I did reboot. the Scanner still did not show up, though it does show as a printer. Unfortunately when it is added it still does not show up in Image Capture.

Another oddity...

If I run iNet, a network mapping utility I see the two macs, the router, and the Epson (although it has an odd designation Epson8B057.

If however I log onto the router via safari, the epson deos not appear within the router's list of attached items.

Thoughts anyone?
