When I connect Macbook to External Display, Macbook Resolution Changes

So this isn't really like a problem, just really annoying. I have an acer external display at home and every time I plug my MacBook in, the resolution of the MacBook goes back to default.

I like the resolution to be one smaller, so I need to back to sysprefs and display page every time I plug in. Like so.

Is there any way I can just make it stay at the resolution I usually use?

There are two main choice's when using a second display. (Mirroring and Extended Desktop Modes)

In Mirrored orMirroring Mode, both displays show the same thing. The problem with Mirroring Mode and two different size displays, is that the system tries to choose a suitable resolution for both monitors.

In Extended Desktop Mode, the displays can and should maintain there native resolutions. The problem here is, that you need to learn how to move and manage windows between both displays.

Yeah, I mean I know the difference between mirrored and extended. That's not what I was asking.

I know how to 'move and manage windows', My problem arrises when I plug the MacBook into the external display when I get home. The laptop goes back into native resolution, I don't want it to. I want it to stay in the configuration I showed in the picture above
