Why won't my 7th gen Nano play the movies I just got for Christmas? An error keeps saying it can't be viewed on this device???

Not all iTunes video can be transferred to iPod, If the video resolution or video bit rate beyond iPod limitation, you can't upload them to iPod. For example, some iTunes purchased movie are High definition movie, the resolution is too high to play on iPod Nano, but you can highlight the problem video in iTunes and choose Create iPod or iPhone version from the Advanced drop down menu. When the conversion process has completed, sync the new version to your iPod. If you need details, here is a guide about how to transfer video/dvd to iPod. Hope it helps. I noticed 6 of the 7 videos that came with an iTunes digital copy have HD listed when I look at their info in my account. I will try the conversion. Can you tell me if both copies will be kept? Also, can the HD versions be viewed on an iPad 2?

Well, not having any success sad to say. I have been able to click on the movies to get a grey box around the edge of it which I belive means it is selected/highlighted. From there I can go to File>Create New Version to find the ipod selection you spoke of but I am not able to select the option. I can't find an advanced drop down option anywhere so I think I am in the correct place. I feel as if the movie isn't truely being selected. I tried the process with another movie and had the same result, not able to select to make an iPod version. I looked at your link and couldn't figure out where to begin. Any other suggestions by chance?

Apple's video format is MP4 by default, you can import any video into a nano just as long as its format is MP4
As long as the video resolution is at or below 640x480 (720x576 for 7th gen nano), and it meets the other specifications (like for the audio component) of videos that can play on the iPod.
