iPod Classic won't connect to new laptop but my iPhone will?

Recently I've got a new Windows 8 laptop, my iPhone will sync and be acknowledged fine however today I tried to sync my iPod Classic and it won't acknowledge it at all. It came up that the device needed to be repaired before continuing, doing that wiped the iPod completely and it now refuses to stay connected to my laptop any longer than a few seconds. What can I do to solve this?
