uploading ftp ascii with ftp client

Ok this isnt specific to Mavericks as before i Upgraded it was the same on mountain lion

And its not just my Mac Book Pro - My mini mac and imac have the same problem

FTP Clients tried

FileZilla - Transmit - Cyberduck

All set to upload passive to a linux server and in ASCII mode

The problem is they are not uploading in ASCII mode and the files are not correct at the linus end

I have a mini mac at work also and from here if i use any of the above ftp programs it all works fine

I am at a loss as to why my other macs wont upload the files correctly

Any help appreciated
