Repair permissions and restart your computer.  Uninstall all previous versions of flash player.  Reinstall the most current flash player for your os.  After the installation, repair permissions and restart your computer.

    Adobe Flash Player Software

    Flash Player Uninstaller

    Hi CMCSK

Did all that: repaired permissions, restarted, uninstalled, tried to download FlashPlayer and got same message:

"Adobe Reader could not open 'install_flash_player_osx-5.dmg' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."

    What to do?

Which version of Snow Leopard are you using?  Please complete your system profile as previously requested.

I don't know what more to give you. Snow Leopard as above 10.6.8. MacMini 3,1 Intel Core Duo, 2GHz, 1 processor, 2 cores, L2 Cache 3MB, Memory 4GB. Is that what you want.

I just now noticed your system version in your topic.  Thank you for providing your other system information. Same should be in your profile so that if you have any other problems, you will not have to repeat yourself or the helpers here keep asking you for it.

If you uninstalled all the older versions of flash player on your computer....

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.

Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.

    Select your language.

Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.

    Select Disk Utility.

Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.

    Click Repair Disk.

    Restart your computer when done.

Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.

Install flash player, repair permissions again when done and also restart your computer.

If still having issues, you should post in the Adobe forums.

After all that CMCSK is completed:

    Run these:

    Unistall Flash:

    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html

Then double click on your HD icon click on your home folder>Library>Internet Plug Ins and highlight anything that says Flash , then COMMAND delete.

Then from the same side bar highlight your volume (default name is Macintosh HD or whatever you may have named it) then click on Library>internet plug ins and COMMAND delete anything that has Adobe FLASH in it, as well as the disabled sub folder, and the Disabled folder.

Then set Safari/Preferences, General tab, "Save downloade file to:" select other when you click on the drop down down menu, and select Desktop from the left column.

Then download the Flashplayer from here:

    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

Select your OSX and then download it. When it finishes downloading, it should have the installer on your desktop.

Quit all open aplications, then run the installer. When it finishes, click done and quit out of the installer (if it is still open)

Log out, shut down, and restart your machine.

    Then try it.

    Hope this helps

Your question is confusing. You say it can't be downloaded, but then you say it can't be opened. You were confusing downloading with installing. If you've got the dmg, then just try this. Start up in Safe Mode, Shift at the startup chime and give it much longer to boot from there. Once you're in Safe Mode, try opening and installing the dmg booted that way. If it's successful, then just restart normally.

You can get the correct dmg here.

It downloaded this morning without any interruption with that message. So don't know why it wouldn't work yesterday. Seems other people had the same prob. I wasn't having any with this until I wanted to use a sight that required it and found it wasn't working. So something went wrong from on day to the next.

    All okay now.

    Thanks

Probably a server glitch: it happens.
