I have v3.01 All of a sudden, some of my spreadsheets generate the alert "this spreadsheet can't be opened because it's too old. To open it, save it to numbers '09 first" How can I save it if I can't open it?

Numbers 3.0 cannot open Numbers '08 files. Open them in Numbers '09 (which is located in the folder "/Applications/iWork '09") and save as Numbers '09 format.
The only "Numbers" in the iwork '09 folder is numbers 3.0.1

I guess I haven't been too clear here. I do have iwork '09, the "numbers"program inside it is v3.0.1. I have however figured a work around,
1) I open the file with Preview
2) I capture the picture with Command / Shift / 4
3) I save it as a PDF
I can now open it and work with it.
I am not a programer and I'm sure there must be an easier way, but just the fact that I have to do this at all is ridiculous.

If you have the iWork '09 suite of apps, you have (or had) Numbers '09. Numbers 3 does not overwrite Numbers '09. If it was installed on your drive, it is still on your drive.
