Tell me about it.... 🙂
I'm not familiar with the tune you mentioned, so I can't say for sure what they used.
If I was doing this, I would reach for the percussion samples in VSL's Opus 1. There's several different "concert" snare drums in there, with all the rolls, ruffs, paradiddle's, etc... that are associated with marching cadences.
I would imagine any decent orchestral percussion set would get you there, or at least very close.
I know VSL sells their percussion set separately, but it still may be more money than you're willing to spend for one song.
If you have a few snare samples that include flams, ruffs, etc (like BFD or DFH) ... you could then re-program the sequence with 5 or 6 different snare drums (but don't quantize any of them) and then add an appropriate reverb to "smear" it somewhat. Then duplicate it with one or two snares that have been sampled with the snares turned off. A mid tom or two, with a fairly "dead" tone could be tucked underneath to approximate a tenor drum. And any concert bass drum would probably work for the marching bass drum as well, particularly smaller sampled ones.
Sorry I can't be more specific... but that might give you some ideas...
