Q: two-page view different between iPad and iBooks Mac?
I am working on an ePUB for iBooks which has a two-page map, half of which shows on page 4 (verso) and half of which shows on page 5 (recto). This displays properly on iBooks on my iPad in non-scrolling view. I just downloaded Mavericks and tested the ePUB in iBooks for Mac. It appears that the default two-page view in iBooks for Mac puts page 1 on the verso (left side) and page two on the right side. Clicking forward, this ends up showing the map incorrectly (i.e., with the left half of the map showing up as page 4 in the recto position, and page 5 (the right half of the map) appearing in the verso position (i.e. on the left side of the two-page layout that includes page 6).
I can click around and get the pages to display properly, but no user will do this. So it now appears that a two-page spread will appear properly on the iPad but not on iBooks for Mac, or vice versa.
I hope I am missing something.
Also, now that I have transferred my books from the Books Library in iTunes to iBooks, it no longer appears possible to get info on an individual book. Does this mean that it is no longer necessary to specify a cover file for an ePUB via Get info? I have ID'd the cover file in content.opf, and it appears to display correctly in iBooks. I'm just surprised there is no right-click contextual access to the books info.
Any thoughts appreciated. I'm just getting a handle on this ePUB thing and I'd like to get it right with my first release.
TIA
