Would someone please tell me what the difference is between sort order and display order? I'm referring to how my contacts list on iPhone 4S.

You can sort your contacts by Last name, First name or by First name, Last name.
You can display your contacts by First name, Last name or by Last name, First name.
Probably because I don't "sort" my contacts, but I don't understand what that is. Of course I know what "display contacts" means (that is how they are shown, as first name first or last name first), but what is an example of why someone would want to sort their contacts?

Your contacts are being "sorted" as with contacts in any other address book. The default is to sort contacts by last name.
The option to sort contacts included with an iOS device is by Last name, First name (default) or if you prefer you can sort your contacts by First name, Last name.
