iphone 5 won't connect to cellular data after wifi

We got new iPhones for Thanskgiving: 5S and 5C, iOs7. Both exhibit the same problem. After being in a wifi environment, connected to and using wifi data, upon leaving the wifi environment, the phone shows a strong cell signal strength but no data symbol (E, 3G, 4G, or LTE). Apps which need Internet access say, "Not connected to Internet".

Switching to Airplane mode and back restores the cellular data connection.

Sigh.......! I'd like to discover a fix for this annoying problem.

Welcome to the Support Communities!

The first thing I would suggest is to make sure your Cellular Data is turned on and enabled for each of the iOS features and apps you are using:

iOS: About the Cellular Data setting

Cellular data is used for data communication in cellular networks. It does not affect your ability to make or receive phone calls or to use Wi-Fi networks for Internet connectivity.
You can adjust this setting by going to:
iPhone: Settings > Cellular

You can also enable or disable cellular data for certain iOS features and applications from this setting:

If this does not resolve your issue, then try resetting the iPhones:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
