Q: Why is the light not coming on whenI plug the AC cord into my mac? Hence battery not charging

My mac book pro was improperly shut down. I opened it and restarted it, used it a bit, noticed the fan running loud as if overheated, then closed it properly, went to plug it in to charge it and the light doesn't come on when I plug in the AC and the battery isn't charging. I don't know how the improper shutdown and the battery problem are related, but, 2 are linked in time.
