Permissions on Compact Flash Card

My Nikon D70s camera recently gave me the CHA error, after which, my Christmas photos seemed to have disappeard from the card. I tried various data recovery applications, but apparently I don't have permission to scan the disk.

Here is the error I get from the Disk Doctors Recovery app:

When I look at the memory card in Finder, it appears that I do have permission to read/write:

I have tried running the recovery on macs for which I am the administrator and I still get the same message.

Any help would be appreciated. There were not that many photos on the card, but, as I said, they were Christmas day photos, and I'd love to be able to recover the photos of my small children on Christmas morning.

Generally, when flash storage goes bad, it is done.

To post screen shots here, use the little Camera icon in the toolbar of the reply window. Pasting them in looks like it works, but doesn't.

The memory card still works, though I'm holding off on using it until I can see if I can recover the data on it.

The camera icon is how I posted the screenshots.

I seem to be able to see the screenshots fine, but in case they're not appearing, here's what the Disk Doctors Recover app error says:

"You do not have permission to open drive /dev/rdisk3, Please select another drive or try running Application as Root."

That seems to periodically happen, here. Some people can see them fine, others not.

Compact Flash cards do not have "permissions." The file system they use is not capable of such a thing. The message says that because it cannot write to the card and is getting a weird response which it interprets as a permission issue.

I have never done any file recovery work, so I don't know what to suggest.

Have you seen this discussion? I don't think it will help with recovery, but has lots of info on the problem.
