Apple remote app cannot use menu on apple TV

I am using the remote app Version 4.1 on an ipad and connecting to an apple TV 3. The connect works very well with the music on itunes match. Audio and Video is ok for playing music or video. But when i try to get back into apple tv menu, i see only a black screen on whithout displaying any icons from my apple tv. The ipad app is not crashed, because the Apple TV tilte on top of the screen as well as the Menu button on the bottom is visible. What needs to be adjusted to see the apple TV menu on the remote application ?
