Q: Design fault? 27" 2013 iMac stand just gave up!

Hi all,

I was just sitting watching TV when there was a loud crack and my iMac screen suddenly tilted down - now the screen will not stay where it is tilted / positioned. I was not using the mac at the time and it was not doing anything it just broke on its own. The mac was only bought in February and has not been moved or tilted once it was in place. This looks like a major design flaw to me as a 10 month mac just fails on its own! Has anyone else suffered this malfunction?

I have yet to contact apple as the store will be closed now but am interested to know if anyone else has suffered the same problem and what apples response was?

I will keep you guys posted once I have spoken to Apple

    Heronymo,

Here is a copy of my receipt for the repair. I also had them replace my Fusion HD since it had a recall on it. The remaining two line items are for the repair of the stand hinge. Hope this helps and good luck. I'd suggest asking for a store manager to help you out. They can look up my repair records using the Repair Number below.

Thanks! That seems to be a good thing to show them but what I'm worried about is that your warranty says Variable Warranty. No idea what that means, but mine comes up as Out Of Warranty. I'm sure they'll use that against me.

Wow, I can't believe the difference in the labour cost now. I don't know what the US equivalent is, but the new cost here is $100. He did originally quote me $39 or something like that, but then said that was the old cost.

Is there anyone else here that's gotten their iMac repaired without cost and the statement on the invoice says "Out of Warranty"?

Sure that would be great! I can't share my email on here (it got removed) but maybe I can do it a roundabout way. If you go to my business site theupsidedesign.com you can fill out the contact form there, just say "hello" or something and then I'll email you my personal email address.
