Syncing gen 1 ipad to new computer

I have a first generation iPad that was synced to a computer that died. I have a new computer running Win 8 64-bit. When I hook up the iPad to the computer iTunes does not pick up the device creating problem number one. I thought I would sync by wifi however the ipad doesn't allow me that option since it has never been synced to this computer. I bought an iPad Air and am trying to figure out how to backup my old iPad so that I can use that backup to setup the new one. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

After you backup and sync the old iPad with the new computer, then you can restore the new iPad from the old iPad backup and sync with iTunes.

I tried all of the steps for device not recognized already and the iPad is still not recognized.

try connecting it with another computer if it respond to no computers then likely the connector of the ipad is damaged

The strange thing is that the computer is recognizing the ipad as a connected device but iTunes doesn't add it. I have tried 2 different connectors and the same thing happens with each.

Are you running the most recent version of iTunes on yor new computer? Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, if you are running the latest version?

ok after uninstalling itunes for the third time and uninstalling mobile support, etc, when I reinstalled the ipad is now recognized and I am able to sync, etc. Thank you all for the help.
