MacBook Air 2011 connect ethernet with usb or Thunderbolt adapter?

My wifi connection with my 2011 MacBook Air is poor. My CenturyLink modem/router ActionTec C100A is no more than 150' away but signal/noise ratio 1s typically 23-28. Moving the MBA next to the router increases s/n to 80. Thinking of trying a powerline network adapter and connecting MBA via an ethernet connection. Anyone try that? Should I connect the ethernet to Thunderbolt (using an adapter) or usb (using an adapter)?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
