time capsule set to extend and now not working

i changed the settings in my time capsule to extend the wifi. the setup i have is from my cable company there is modem router that is on the second floor. i plugged in my time capsule to cat5 from that modem/router down on the first floor. it was working fine putting out its own signal but then i changed it to extend the cable company signal and now it is blinking amber light and i cannot figure out how to get back into it to change the settings. i primarily want to know how to get back into the BaseStation and from there either extend the cable company wifi signal and/or create a secondary wifi signal from the timecapusle/basestation.

How about if you temporarily connect a spare Ethernet cable....any length will do...from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule?

Also try disconnecting the cable from your modem/router that goes to the WAN port on the Time Capsule to see if that will allow the TIme Capsule to appear in AirPort Utility.

What we are trying to do here is avoid having to start all over again from scratch.

See your other post to find out what you should not have done.....but please do not respond there. We want to work here.

What you are really asking about here is a "roaming network"....not an "extended network"

In a roaming network, a device that logs on near your modem/router and later moves near the Time Capsule will automatically pick up the stronger signal from the Time Capsule without having to change networks.

Same for a device that logs on near your Time Capsule and moves near the modem/router.

Your modem/router and Time Capsule will be creating one "big" single network that has two wireless access points.

If this is what you want to do. please post back.

Sorry, I am confused. I did not ask you to perform a reset, as we were trying to get things working without having to start over again from scratch.

You marked your original problem as solved and I was suggesting a way to tweak your network, assuming that you had things working.

You are now saying that you reset the Time Capsule and cannot find it with AirPort Utility?

At this point, all that I can suggest is that you perform a "hard reset" to get the Time Capsule back to factory default settings as follows:

Power up the Time Capsule for a few minutes

Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 10 seconds, then release

Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart

Open up AirPort Utility

Click on the Other Wi-Fi Devices button

Click on Time Capsule xxxxxxx

That will get things started again. Configure the Time Capsule like you did originally.

Once that is done, we can make some tweaks if you want.
