error code -50

I am trying to delete a file from and external hard drive. When I highlight the file and select Move to Trash I get a message that shows Trash at the top and the message The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50). Any suggestions on what has happened? and are there any sugegstions on what I can do to delete the file?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6), none

Hi, Not David.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

Here are the best two articles I could find that may help you delete the item you are having issues with.

You can't empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash

Unable to move, unlock, modify, or copy an item in Mac OS X
