How can I remove shorten the overall song length once I am done recording? The heading 'drag' is not visible due to the expand/zoom tool.
This should simply be in the bar with the BPM/KEY/etc.

This is really ****. Use the zoom slider to zoom in a bit. Then more of the "End-of-song" marker will show.
Move the mouse right above the zoom control where you see a part of the marker peeping out, and when the cursor turns into a bracket, drag the marker away from the zoom control.
That requires a bit of fiddling, but will work.

What is your "delete" key bound to?
In my GarageBand version "Delete Track" is boud to "cmd-delete ⌘⌫" and not to simply delete ⌫.

Are there regions in tracks, beyond the end of the song you want?
Once you managed to drag the end of song marker to a place where you can see it well, zoom out and drag it so far to the right, that all your regions are within the scrollable area. Then you should be able to trim you audio regions.
Then drag the marker back. you may need to zoom in again to be able to grab it and drag it to the left.
No, it does not- I select the region ( top/orange). Hitting delete at this point nukes the track I was last on.

There is no way I can see to delect at least one track, or globally turn track delection off.
This simply should not be a 'drag' tool, at least not as the only option. There should be a 'trim all, range, from x to z, etc.

N0- It is just blank space.
And, I want to add, I have been able to select the file. but, hitting delete just deletes the track that is selected. I have tried the Arrangement track thing too with the same result.

If you select a region in the track, and hit delete, it will delete the region, but if you just select the track, it will delete the track.
