ACL Found/Repaired = Not Repaired

I already know the "messages you can safely ignore" statement.

However having just migrated over from a Lion machine to a Mavericks machine - the number of these errors in Disk Utility/Permissions Repair has increased exponentially - the errors now total -

218,113 words

2,136,649 characters

Pasted into Bean they take up 445 PAGES of text!!!!

Disk Utility reports these as REPAIRED, but on 2nd pass they all show up again.

The Apache one is a bit disconcerting as I wouldn't want someone hacking a backdoor into my system - but I digress...

The sheer number of these is insane - is there ANY way to clean this garbage out of the system?

Sample of just a few -

I tried the command line utility ACLr8 v1.3.0 - (forgot I even had a copy on hand)

It cleaned almost all of them up!

The only remaining error -

Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.Permissions differ on “usr/lib/ruby”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are drwxr-xr-x .Repaired “usr/lib/ruby”

Permissions repair complete

This is what ACLr8 looks like after running in terminal -

Creating unexpected ACL database...

done. There were 9829 files with unexpected ACL.

Removing ACL from all files in the database...

done.

Finished! The ACL repair completed successfully.

logout

ACLr8 1.3.0

by nomulous (aka. Fletcher Tomalty)

Description:

ACLr8 is a command-line tool written in Python that will analyze your entire hard drive searching for files that cause the "ACL found but not expected" errors in disk utility, and remove all ACL from them.

Although these errors are relatively harmless, they can be quite annoying and they cause permission repairs to take much longer than they should. ACLr8 is very safe, but of course you use it at your own risk.

Instructions:

1. Run the program.

2. Enter your password as necessary.

3. There is no step 3.

Disclaimer:

The creator of this program takes no responsibility for anything it may do, use at your own risk.
