Large format page size in Pages 09

I've searched the community and cannot find an answer.

I need to create an 11X14 page layout document in Pages 09. With a new document in the foreground (selected) I have created a custom size. The page stays at 8.5X11. It then occurred to me that my printer must be limiting the size because my printer has an 8.5" maximum feed width.

I went to SysPrefs and change the default paper size to my custom size but that didn't work. I saw a post by someone who said that they had created incredibly large format size did not say how.

For reference, I do not need to print my page locally. I am preparing it for a print shop.

Then you should be able to create the custom size, select it in Page setup and print it to .pdf for output at your commercial Printer.

System Preferences has nothing to do with it, just Page Set-up.

Within Pages, under the File menu choose Page Setup. Then use the Paper Size menu to select the size you want, or to create a custom size.

The following image shows that I am selecting the custom size. Note the document width at 8.5 at the ruler.

In the second image the document inspector shows 8.5 X 11 AFTER the selection of the custom size. The document itself stays at 8.5 on the ruler.

Am I doing something wrong? I don't think I am.

Mine is in centimeters, but the point is that you have to change these values.

My clue that you haven't done so is that in your first screen shot underneath paper size 11 X 14 it still says 8.5 by 11 inches.

When I make the changes to the values and click okay I get:

so underneath the 11 X 14 it says 27.94 by 35.56 cm which is the centimeter version of 11 by 14 inches.

Your screenshot would seem to indicate that you have created a custom page that is 8.5 x 11 inches and named it 11 x 14.

Awesome! That did the trick. I'm chuckling at myself for missing that.

The corrected paper size is now correct. It's grayed out but can be changed by clicking on Manage Custom Sizes. I'm assuming it's grayed on in the Page Attributes box because it's too large for my printer, correct?
