I can't find TextEdit on my mac

Use Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X 10.6 DVD and then run the Mac OS X 10.6.8 combo updater.

Niel's given you the link, although the 10.6.8 combo update can presumably be skipped, since it doesn't alter Textedit.

Do you have an icon on the dock which is silver and looks like it has a rocket ship on it? (called Launchpad). I see text edit on there.

Where did you delete it from? TextEdit lives in the Application folder at root level of your Hard Disk, so the first thing to do is to double-click the Hard Disk icon on your Desktop, then double-click the Applications folder. Look for TextEdit.

If it's not there, then you've actually deleted it and should follow Niel's advice. If it is there but not in the Dock, simply drag its icon onto the left-hand side of the Dock. (Removing icons from the Dock doesn't affect the actual application.)

It should show in Spotlight; have you checked by the method I suggested? If it's not there, then as I say you are either going to have to follow Niel's suggestion or do a complete system reinstall.
