Actually, I found a really simple way to do it. Copy from Numbers. Paste to TextEdit. Format>Make Plain Text. Select All. Copy. Paste into Pages.

I do not have Pages '09...only 5.5.3 version. Is there a way to convert a table to text in this version? The "convert table to text" option is not on my Format menu.

Pages v5.5.3 does not support table to text conversion. You can copy/paste a table from Pages into TextEdit, and get to aligned, tab separated text fields.

1. Copy Pages table

   1. Format > Make Plain Text
   2. Paste

      Text items are separated by a single tab character and mostly aligned unless a large word causes misalignment.

   3. Copy text items
3. Pages

   Paste text items back from TextEdit

Text items separated by tabs in Pages, can be copied, and pasted into the first cell of a blank table (even if the table is smaller than the text items), and the table will then auto-populate, and auto-expand rows and columns to accommodate the tab separated text items.

Frustrated by this as well pasting from Excel. I found this work around: in Pages, click on the insert table button and select a table format. Pages inserts a default 4x4 table. Select the first cell of the table, and paste your content. The table automatically adjusted to the appropriate number of columns and rows.

This works, but places the contents of all of the cells in the NUMBERS table in a PAGES table that has same-sized rows and columns, so if the NUMBERS table contains differently-sized rows and/or columns, reformatting will be necessary. Just a comment and not a complaint!
