Q: Display using and HDMI Cable

I'm having trouble connecting my MacBook Pro to my TV using an HDMI cable. I know I have the right cable and I know I am plugging it in correctly. However, I cannot find the right setting for my screen to display on the TV. I've tried changing the display resolution in system preferences, but I don't know which is the correct one to choose.

Update on my situation. I found the right setting and made it to the home galaxy screen. Now, however, I have the screen up and the video (Netflix) is running on the TV fine except for the audio. I was under the impression that the audio was built in to newer HDMI cables, as long as you have an HDTV. Is this not the case? Or am I missing another audio setting on my computer?

Apple lays out the requirements for audio over HDMI below. Verify that your Mac model is new enough, otherwise it will be too old to send audio over HDMI. If it's too old, you have to use a separate audio cable.

You can certainly check the audio output settings in the Sound system preference and also in the Audio MIDI Setup utility, but it is just as important to make sure your TV is set to play back audio from the exact HDMI port that the Mac cable is plugged into.
