I have the setting as per your instruction above, however, still my emails are archived. any other idea how can I change to delete then archive?
Thanks
If you are still on Mavericks, I don't remember the settings in Mail to tell you what I think you should do beyond making sure the Use this Mailbox for > is set to Trash and not Archive.
go to the settings for that mail account and change it from archive to delete
It's not archiving them. Gmail is. Mail is just finally showing you what Google has been doing all along.
Go to the Gmail web site and look at the All Mail label. You will see all of the email you thought you had deleted.
I can't find a setting that has anything to do with archiving.

Actually, you did: http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/terms/user_terms.html
I don't have the Mavericks version in front of me ... but try within Mail going to Preferences, Accounts, and looking within the various tabs there.
Yes they are there, but how do I stop them showing up in mail?
Ah, this may be the piece that I was missing yesterday ... but you may still have to update the settings in Mail.
I think you have to do BOTH of what Barney and I are recommending.
go to your web-based gmail and update the settings as Barney explained. Then go into Mail Preferences on your Mac and switch it from archive to trash for delete
In my version of gmail it says
"Move the message to the Bin" which I assume means Trash.
Thanks I'll give it a try

Go into Gmail Settings, Labels, uncheck the box to show All Mail in IMAP.
Thanks
It worked
