iphone 5 caller id showing unknown caller even though he is on contact list

it may you have 2 contact with same number.(dublicate contact)

Caller ID is a carrier feature. If you are positive that every contact entry has the correct number, as would be transmitted by your carrier, then contact your carrier to insure that Caller ID is working/properly provisioned on your account.

If I call my iphone from my land line I get Unknown Caller - If I call my Samsung from my land line ( Same Carrier - Same Number ) I see the caller details.

So Samsung Works - I Phone does not work . How can it be a Carrier Problem ?

I've been having similar issues on iOS8.1.3. Caller line ID doesnt show despite the carrier having it enabled. Even used the network short code to validate CLI setting, and retruns as "enabled".

When going into Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID; there's no option to have the setting changed. It's greyed out.

If I do the same process after enabling flight mode, it seems to allow the toggle, but the setting doesnt commit.(therefore have to assume that the toggle switch is network controlled)

Anyone else facing the same challenge? It's all good calling in Batman mode, but some people don't take calls at all from "Unknown" numbers. It's quite frustrating.

I'm having the same issue. I just switched from AT&T to Cricket and switched from an iPhone 4 to 5c. Apple said it isn't on their end and to make sure Cricket has my caller id feature turned on, on cricket's end. Of course, Cricket said they can't even do anything like that. It isn't all my contacts anyway, only some of them. I'd love to hear anyway to resolve this.

MY phone is a Iphone 6 Plus, I was calling someone with a 5 and my calls to that phone were coming over as UNKNOWN.

Finally I turned off LTE on the 6 Plus and rebooted it and sure enough now the Caller ID works perfectly.

Thus the issue must be with LTE

Try having the originator of the call turn off LTE in their Celluar Settings.
