i have lost all my contacts from my iphone 3 gs,i have backup on my laptop,but i cant get to a previous back up with my contacts on

You should have been syncing them to your computer/cloud service from the beginning. Have you failed to do this?
i have been sync once a week on my laptop,but when i go to back up it only shows the two today,and cant get a previous back up with the contacts on it,each time i hook up with usb lead to charge it also does a fresh back up
