Q: Qdesign encoder for windows 7?

I'm trying to get some guidance from apple on this subject.

I am the operations manager for a radio station here in Michigan, and I work for the Smile FM Radio network which has 22 stations in Michigan.

We use custom-written software to operate our stations.  This software works with raw .WAV files and Qdesign compressed files.  We have been using an outdated Qdesign driver since 1996.  This driver does NOT work under Windows 7.  With the end of support for Windows XP coming, we're trying to find out if Apple has software that will run on Windows 7 that can compress files with QDesign?   There are technical reasons why the software doesn't support .MP3 format, exactly what those are I don't know.   Using raw .WAV doesn't work either.. as e-mailing/FTP'ing 30-40mb files over connections that are slower than dialup at times isn't practical.

We will need both an Encoder and Decoder for Qdesign if one still exists.

This is a user to user forum so you'll not get an "official apple" response.

fwiw - Apple does not produce software that runs under windows. Your best bet would be to post in a Windows Audio forum. Doesn't Qdesign have anything to say?

The problem, is Apple bought Qdesign many years ago, and shut Qdesign down.  There is no qdesign anymore.  That's why I'm asking here on Apple...  There doesn't appear to be anyway to get ahold of apple corporate to ask them.

Most of the Big Time radio stations are just going to raw .WAV files which we could do too, but like I said, e-mailing 30-40mb files just isn't feasable for us.

From my reading is sounds like Apple abandoned Qdesign codecs with the introduction of Quicktime 4.

Can you compress to something like AAC to send and have people at the other end convert back to wav?

Is there an association of broadcasters technical list serve out there you can access? Might be worth a shot.

Once Apple abandons software it does not respond to people about it. It is as though the stuff never existed.
