Just set up my new 3rd gen Apple TV box it was working until I updated it now no status light on only connect small USB to computer which I do not have

If your problem persists you'll need to restore from a friends computer, get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:

1. Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
2. Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
3. Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
4. Open iTunes.
5. Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.

(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

Have you tried using the remote? I am new to the Apple TV device but I find that it appears to go into a "sleep" mode after a period of inactivity and the indicator light goes dark. When I touch the select button on the remote it jumps back to life and the indicator light reappears.
