Bevel and Emboss filters?

It appears to me that Motion 1 doesn't have the same degree of filters for text that Photoshop does, or at least I haven't found them yet.

I did find the bevel border but that does not bevel the individual letters. I also found the color emboss in the stylistic group but that doesn't have near the capability that Photoshop does.

I realize I could create letters in Photoshop and import them but that seems inefficient.

Can anyone recommend any 3rd party filters that will accomplish the bevel and emboss effects directly in Motion?
Hopefully at a reasonable price.

Try the Extrude filter; also check out this:

Should give you a sense of some 3D type things you can do.

Make sure you check the Text tab of the inspector as well for a large set of controls.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm using Motion 1 and don't have extrude.

Is motion 2 so significantly better that I MUST have it? (I've been trying NOT to upgrade to OSX 4.X or whatever Motion 2 recommends).

Can you point me in the right direction that gives a good comparison between the Motion 1 and 2 ?

Howdy,

Motion doesn't have text bevelling (sp?) like Photoshop, but you may get some mileage out of the Indent filter, found in the Stylize category. It allows for embossing effects, and you can use other images/objects as the source for the emboss.

Thanks for the response.

I'm sure I'm as blind as a bat, but when I go to "add filter" with a text word selected in my copy of Motion 1.01 and choose "stylize", there is no word that begins with an "i" anywhere in the list. Indent is just not there.

Could that be a feature only in Motion 2? Or, do you think I might have a corrupt list of filters?

Indent was one of the 19 filters added to Motion 2 (3 of which are a separate bonus download).

Thanks!

Do you happen to know if Joe's Filters work in Motion? As I'm sure you know, they were crafted to work expressly for FCP and FCE HD. But that may mean nothing to Motion.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a true 3D package, but may not be able to afford one right now.

ProAnimator from Zaxwerks is a standalone 3D app that's great for animating 3D text and also works as a plugin in Motion:
