Black exclamation mark when opening photos

I can not open my photos on my computer. The videos work just fine but eveytime I click on the photos I just get a triangle with a black exclamination mark. This happens both in iPhoto and in preview and I cant even search for the file name to find them. But the thumbnails are still there so the pictures are not deleted. In the masters file I find the videos but not the pictures and I have not deleted them from my computer. I've tried downloading iPhoto Library Manager but nothing is working.

My operating system is OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 and i'm using iPhoto 9.5.1

This is not necessarily the case at all.

In the masters file I find the videos but not the pictures

Then the photos have been deleted somehow. Time to restore from your back up.

If the photos are not in Masters then they are not available and you need to restore a backup form before this occured - have you run any cleanup or tidy software - Clean My Mac 2 or MacKeeper (do not use either) or others?
