How do you disable MIDI program changes with external instruments?

I have several external instruments (keyboards and sound modules) that I am trying to use with Logic Pro X, and I would like to be able to select the patch manually, and not have Logic Pro X send the program change to the MIDI device, but it keeps doing it. I have tried various settings on the Inspector pane for the track - checking and unchecking the checkbox next to "Program", setting Bank, etc., but Logic Pro keeps sending MIDI program change messages to the external instruments, overriding the manual patch setting.

Anyone have a solution?

The first thing I usually do when importing a MIDI file is to go into the Step Editor, select each track (I think you can select all the tracks at once), click on the Program Change label in the editor (which will select ALL program changes for the selected track(s) at once) and type delete.

You should be able to filter out program change messages in the MIDI settings. This will prevent them from being passed through Logic. Settings/MIDI/input filter.
