Q: HP photosmart c4680 will not scan with Mac OS 10.9.1

My HP Photosmart C4680 all in one printer will not scan with OS 10.9.1. Tried a variety of procedures such as unistalling HP printer application & then reinstalling. Scan to different formats, etc. All failed. Need help as now cannot user scanner.

Thanks  John Margp

Go to Applications > open Image Capture and give it a try.

Many thanks. Yes, that worked immediately. I find it a little inconvenient than scanning directly from printer. Just an observation a scanner worked prior too Maverick up date on laptop. I wonder if HP will correct this. By the way no solution given on HP support.

    Thanks again.

    You are welcome.

I've used Image Capture for years. If you put an Image Capture icon (shortcut) on your Dock, I think that eventually you will find it to be faster and better than your original scanning software.

I have HP Photosmart C4780 which I purchased w/my IMAC desktop. I also cannot scan since install of Meverick, but when I went to Image Capture, the HP even though connected and on, was not listed in devices. I noticed during the process of unplugging, replugging, connecting, disconnecting, shutdown etc, to see if that would work, that the menu that comes up when printer comes up is different than the usual, "Print, Scan etc."  HELP!

I not very brainy but as you noted did solve problem with help from this community. When you open image capture it should recognize your printer & immediately start the scan proces. My only suggestion is to check the status of your printer & be sure it is selected as active.

That is my anemic suggestion. Good Luck
