Q: iPad 2 will not charge

I have an iPad 2 that is 2 years old and will not charge.  It indicates it is charging but no progress is made. This suddenly became a problem yesterday (10 days after our extended warranty expired!).  Yesterday we managed to get it to 12% and left it plugged in overnight. This morning it was only at 19%. Normally this iPad charges to 100% in about 3-4 hours.  I had turned down brightness and shut off auto updates on apps etc (which we have never had to do) but still no help.  Today we let it drain to nil to try and charge and now we cant even use it - we just get the battery symbol when we try and turn it on!  If I take out the cord, the cord symbol and lightning bolt show up on the battery screen right above the charge port, and this goes away when I plug it back in. I am using the apple cord and wall jack/plug and I am on ios 7.0.4 (I did read some have had a similar problem after updating to iOS 7 but we did not have any problems after the update...just suddenly now has this become a problem.  Anyone else have this problem???  I hate to think that my iPad or the battery is shot after only 2 years.  That is a cost of $250 a year - not impressed!  I love the iPad but this issue may make me reconsider apple products.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
