If I have iMessage on my phone and text to another person's phone, does my message go to our family iPad for anyone's viewing?

If I have imessaging turned on my iphone, if I text someone else through their phone number, does my texting conversation go also to our ipad where my kids can read my texts that I send and receive on my phone? We only have one apple id account. do all my texts go to the ipad if we have only one apple ID account between our phones and our ipad?
