Importing pictures from Apple sd card reader on iPad 2
I have done this many times now since the latest update ipad does not recognize the sad reader or the camera reader and unable to import pictures?

Have you tried to give the ipad a reset? Sometimes that port gets turned off - for lack of a better term - and the reset restarts it. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
It is possible that your card reader has stopped working. Do you know someone else with an iPad that you can test it on? if it doesn't work on theirs too then it could be a broken connector. If it works on theirs then there's something with your ipad.
