What is the Region Format option for (Apple TV gen 3)

I'm setting up my new Apple TV and came across the Region Formatting option. It's currently set to USA. I live in AUS so do i need to change it?

I bought the Apple TV so i can watch the NHL games through the app. If i change the region will the NHL app still work?

My itunes account is also set to AUS.
