Sorry, but we do not know........

1) Whether you have an Apple AirPort router or another third party router.....since AirPort Utility can only be used to change the settings on an Apple AirPort device.

2) What model of AirPort router you have......if you do have an Apple router.

3) If you do have an Apple AirPort router.....and it is working correctly.....and you want to change the password for the wireless network.....but the AirPort device will not appear when you open AirPort Utility.

4) What troubleshooting steps you may have already performed.

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility

Click on the AirPort Extreme

Click on Edit in the smaller window that appears

Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window

Edit out / backspace in the box next to Wireless Password and type in your new password

Do the same to Verify Password

I would also recommend that you change the Wireless Network Name to avoid having your computer store two different passwords for the same wireless network name....which is bound to cause issues sooner or later.

Click Update at the lower right of the window and wait a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart

Hello H Johnson,

Try the below steps on your Mac to change the password of your Wifi (Airport Extreme)

  • Open a new Finder window by clicking on the icon in the Dock.

  • Navigate to the "Utilities" folder, which is located in the "Applications" section of the Mac hard drive.

  • Double-click on the "AirPort Utility" icon. The AirPort configuration program will launch and begin scanning for nearby AirPort wireless routers.

  • Highlight your AirPort wireless router from the list of available devices on the left side of the window. Then click on the "Manual Setup" button at the bottom of the window.

  • Go to the "Wireless" tab at the top of the window.

  • Enter a new password for your AirPort wireless network in the "Wireless password" and "Verify Password" fields.

  • Click on the "Update" button at the bottom of the window to save the settings and change your AirPort password.

You changed the wireless password on the Time Capsule......but the AirPort Express has no way to know this. Remember......the AirPort Express is still programmed to use your "old" password, which the Time Capsule no longer uses.

So the AirPort Express is now lost, and it does not know how to find its way.

Help the AirPort Express by resetting it back to factory default settings, and then set it up again, so that it can learn and store the new password that the Time Capsule is using.

Please see the AirPort Express Setup Guide.......

    AirPort Express 802.11n (2nd Generation) - Setup GuideJun 11, 2012 - 2 MB

Refer to page 22.....To return your AirPort Express to its factory settings

Use the end of a straightened paper clip to hold down the reset button for ten seconds....then release

Allow a minute for the AirPort Express to restart again

Now that the AirPort Express has been reset to factory default settings, you can set it up again to work with the Time Capsule network......just like you did before when you first set up the AirPort Express.

If you need more help, refer to page 14.....Setting up AirPort Express
